This is  a great space saver idea that can work in a back yard or community garden.  I think it would look nice in a front yard as well!  If mine wasn't so close to a very busy street, I might have considered it since I have a rock planter out there already.  I don't think the vehicle exhaust is quite going to work though.

One Tomato Plant

On my travels last week, I ran across a few people who are starting with one tomato plant. Above are my two tomato plants from last year. I had fresh tomatoes all summer into fall with those. I hadn't had a vegetable garden for 15 years! In my previous gardening life, I had two in-ground garden patches. By far, the largest and most prolific was the 15' x 15' garden I planted in North Pole, Alaska. With all the sunlight in the long summer days, you could practically see the growth before your very eyes. I had a smaller one in California that was very satisfying, though not as big. And then, there was that one tomato plant...

Earth Day 2009: Roll Out The Barrels!

Earth Day 2009

This April 22nd will mark the 29th rotation of the rock since it was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in back in 1970. The first Earth Day saw twenty million turn out and thousands of schools participate. Very successful!  Rain water collection and delivery to our gardens is one way we can contribute to the celebration this year!
