The “Square Foot” Container Garden
OK. What I am going to introduce to you is some square foot gardening things that I have been doing. My wife and I homeschool and one of the things we started was to begin a “square foot garden” as promoted by Mel Bartholomew. I originally built a two-foot by two-foot container garden so it was easy to demonstrate square foot methods at homeschool presentations. However during practical use in the back yard it would dry out quickly.

Keyhole Garden
This is a great space saver idea that can work in a back yard or community garden. I think it would look nice in a front yard as well! If mine wasn't so close to a very busy street, I might have considered it since I have a rock planter out there already. I don't think the vehicle exhaust is quite going to work though.
Do you have a place to try this? Let us know how it works out!

One Tomato Plant
On my travels last week, I ran across a few people who are starting with one tomato plant. Above are my two tomato plants from last year. I had fresh tomatoes all summer into fall with those. I hadn't had a vegetable garden for 15 years! In my previous gardening life, I had two in-ground garden patches. By far, the largest and most prolific was the 15' x 15' garden I planted in North Pole, Alaska. With all the sunlight in the long summer days, you could practically see the growth before your very eyes. I had a smaller one in California that was very satisfying, though not as big. And then, there was that one tomato plant...
