10 Ways to Save Money on Gas

1. Keep your tires inflated to the correct pressure.
This is the number one way to improve gas mileage. If you are unsure how to do this, check with your husband, father, best friend, or mechanic. Check your tires monthly and use your owner’s manual for the correct pressure.
2. Clean out your trunk.
Get rid of the extra stroller, the bike, etc. Every extra pound of weight lowers your gas mileage.
3. Change your oil regularly.
Keep your car working at its most efficient and you will get the best gas mileage. The same goes for changing filters.
4. Don’t drive.
For trips under a mile, walk. Don’t think of your starting destination only as home either. If you are visiting stores that are close together, park in the middle or at the store where your shopping is lightest.
 5. Combine errands.
This is a no brainer but really hard to do sometimes. Fewer trips use less gas.
6. Fill your tank when it is cool and when it is only half empty.
Gasoline turns to a vapor easily in hot weather, and it is denser in the cool weather. Filling your tank in the cool will give a tiny bit more gas than in the hot weather.
7. Carpool.
This is tricky with kids, but it is not impossible. We all are going on the same field trips, load up the minivans and split the gas. Everyone saves and the trip is more fun!
8. Go to Gasbuddy.com for the best local prices on gas.
A few pennies here and there make a huge difference in the end. Some grocery chains will give you a discount or coupon when you spend a certain amount.
9. Be a peaceful driver.
Quick accelerations and lots of breaking (especially hard breaking) use up a lot of gas. Give everyone room, break slowly and smoothly, and accelerate before you reach the big hills.
10. Ditch the roof racks.
The more drag there is on the car, the less efficient your car is and the lower your gas mileage.
