Facials

I believe in simplicity and facials are a wonderful simple treat for your skin. Many professional see facials as a three step process - scrub, tone, moisturize. As I learn more about skin care I find that process to be excessive. I feel a good light scrub followed by a moisturizer is all you really need. I have dropped toners from my skin care regime because most contain alcohol and alcohol is drying.

I love looking at all the facial recipes but find myself sticking to one easy recipe:
Sara's Oatmeal Scrub
Equal parts - oatmeal, raw almonds, powdered milk.
Blend in a blender until it forms a powder.
To use: place a small amount (about a Tablespoon) in the palm of your hand. Drip water on powder until it makes a paste. Rub, gently, over the face, rinse with warm water. This can easily be done in the shower.
The best part of this recipe is it's flexibility. I have omitted the almonds and found it to be effective. I have also substituted soy powder and left over formula powder with success. You can easily use leftovers from your pantry for this facial.
I have considered experimenting with other raw nuts and seeds but haven't gotten around to it.
As this fall progresses into winter I am going to try other recipes and share the ones I like. I doubt, however, any of them will take the place of this recipe as my favorite.
As for moisturizers, I always prefer the recipe I shared in the previous lotion article. Make it with spearmint and rosemary oils to prevent blemishes or with calendula to boost skin's healing properties.
