Spa Gifts DIY: Milk Bath
It's that time of year, again. The time to hunt for the perfect gift. Take it easy on yourself and give a spa gift. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing gifts you can make and a few that you can buy (or both).
My favorite spa recipe is milk bath. It's simple, elegant and affordable. Now, I have to admit that I seem to attract powdered milk. I don't know how it happened but I seem to be the neighbor that everyone gives powdered milk to. This recipe came out of necessity since we won't really drink milk (dairy allergies in the house). With that said, I apologize if you go to the store and pass out over the price - I have had a few moments of light headedness looking at the powdered milk in the store. The positive side is that a little goes a long way with this recipe.
Milk Bath:
2 cups powdered milk
1/2 cup baking soda
1/4 teaspoon essential or fragrance oil (this is flexible).
Carefully mix the milk powder with the baking soda - it will be dusty which is why I say carefully mix. Add fragrance. Mix again.
Sometimes I want to make a couple of different fragrances so I put the unscented milk bath in a container and add drops of fragrance until it's what I want. Baking soda is a great fragrance conductor so it doesn't take a lot to make it smell good.
To package: I use craft zip-lock type bags that are about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long. I like that it's not a lot of packaging. I have seen people package milk bath in cleaned iced coffee bottles since they often look like milk bottles. Small canning jars will work - or anything. I don't recommend glass bottles if you are mailing the milk bath.
Feel free to decorate the container. One year my son's class made milk bath for mother's day and decorated the bags with foam stickers and ribbons. Some of them even put the bagged product in a decorative gift bag to give it something a little more. The options are limitless.
