Creating Style on a Budget

You want a new look, but you are counting your pennies...here's some other fun, creative, personalized, simple, inexpensive decorating ideas for your home (that look like you took hours and spent millions).

Collections are the key. These dishes came from a yard sale. Now one lone plate at a yard sale can look a little forlorn...but put it together with some friends and it's easy to create a cohesive look.

Re-purpose. Turn a spice shelf into a book rack. Turn a piece of architectural salvage into a lamp. Turn wooden fruit into bookends. Turn corbels into a mantle.

Don't overlook the details. Knobs are the perfect place to add a little special touch. Here's a simple sign hanging from a black ribbon (we also love to add keys on ribbons...tassels...or wreaths tied with raffia).

Add a pop of black and white in every room.

Use your over-sized family calendar (or over-sized chalkboard) as a design element. This is the perfect combination of form and function (although we sometimes do put form over function as our mother likes to say)!

This was hanging in the kitchen and we couldn't resist. Definitely our motto!
